Taylor Early Learning Centre
Taylor Early Learning Centre (TELC), Loquat Valley’s Pre-Kindergarten, is a wonderful place for children to begin their school journey.
It was opened in September 2010. With it we have endeavoured:
"... to bring together space, colour and light to create a wonderful place that encourages children to develop their full range of senses and experiences to nurture their intellectual and creative development, and to capture the young, playful and imaginative world of the inquisitive and powerful early learner."
The TELC program is designed to plant the seeds of life-long learning by creating a joyous and stimulating environment underpinned by nurturing and teaching that encourages all the important dispositions for learning. The program is inspired by the world best practice Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education, the three major elements of which are: resources and experiences, opportunities for children to express in different ways their thinking, and adults who take children seriously and listen to them respectfully.
The activities the children participate in are designed to assist their concentration, thinking and manipulative skills, social interaction and enjoyment of learning, all of which will serve them extremely well in TELC and as they move on to Kindergarten and beyond.
Daily activities at TELC include music and singing, physical development and outdoor play, pre-numeracy and literacy activities, child interest investigations, story time, story telling and visits to the library.
Our program is specifically designed to enable children to make a smooth transition into "big school". There are many benefits to be gained from a pre-school program within the school. They include interaction with caring older students and nominated ‘buddies’, involvement in Music, PE, Art, Christian Studies and other specialist subject areas, access to the library and computer room, visits to next year’s classrooms and meeting next year’s teachers in advance.
The seamless transition to Kindergarten provides a very secure start to our children's learning at Loquat Valley. Our clear expectations is that all children commencing in the Taylor Early Learning Centre will continue to our Kindergarten and then on to Year 6. Following Year 6, all Loquat Valley students have guaranteed entry to St Luke's Grammar School.
