
Literacy and numeracy
When children can read, comprehend, work with numbers and communicate clearly, they have some important foundations for life-long learning in place.
Loquat valley children will be challenged to meet high literacy standards so they can develop a love of literature and the desire to use language in effective and expressive ways.
We provide support for students in gaining the necessary tools to become fluent readers and writers through our classroom and specialist teacher and support programs. Diagnostic tools, assessments each year and early intervention are used to help children make the most of their potential.
Lexile reading, an online program to match reading capacity with available materials, and to record reading progress is available to all children from Years 3 to 6. Before then, from Kindergarten to Year 2, the class reading program is supplemented with the system of 'take-home' readers.
All class teachers are trained in the LIEN program (Learning In Early Numeracy). This is a research-based program that forms the focus of the numeracy program. Children’s mathematical development is carefully tracked through regular one-to-one interviews with teachers.
Mathletics, on online program to expand maths skills and speed is available to all students from Kindergarten to Year 6
